BREEAM – Environmental Certificate – Sustainable business
LSC holds a BREEAM environmental certificate. The Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is among Europe’s most trusted environmental certificates and an excellent tool for maintaining sustainability and tracking energy consumption. BREEAM helps us to monitor our environmental goals, plan and steer new construction and verify the results of various sustainability projects.
Niam Green & Enerkey – Proactive sustainability
Niam’s Green environmental initiative and the EnerKey consumption tracking system allow us to monitor and significantly reduce energy consumption in our properties. Niam Green is Niam’s corporate initiative to reduce the environmental impact of the properties we own and the carbon footprint of our operations. EnerKey is an advanced software system that we use to track and analyse consumption at LSC. EnerKey helps us to be even more ecological, even preventively.
The purpose of all this is to reduce LSC’s carbon footprint to as small as possible. We are not yet there, but we are making continuous efforts to reach our goal.

Life Science Center Cleaning Using Ozonated Water
Ozonated water is a cutting-edge cleaning innovation that renders traditional cleaning chemicals almost unnecessary. It is an eco-friendly substance that does not leave behind detergent residues, which could otherwise end up in nature or the human body.
Ozonated water is produced from ordinary tap water by passing it through Avatar Ecofrog ozonator. Ozonated water effectively breaks down and removes grease and organic dirt, and it kills bacteria and viruses with an efficiency of up to 99.9%. The ozone dissolved in the water is completely safe and does not evaporate into the air. Ozonated water has been thoroughly researched and proven to be an effective and safe cleaning method, receiving official approvals, including from the EU.

Examples of LSC’s acts of responsibility
We have launched an energy efficiency project that will allow us to save EUR 100,000 per year in maintenance fees. This will also save 238 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Use of low-emission materials for restaurant renovations and alteration work for tenants that also allows us to save water and energy.
The lights in the common areas have been replaced with LED lights and is controlled with timers and motion sensors
We recycle and offer for reuse, used furniture and materials as far as possible.
We encourage “green” exercise and bicycling, in particular, by offering heated indoor bicycle parking.
We take environmental aspects into consideration in all purchases, We encourage and provide training for waste sorting and also require our partners to make greener choices.
Life Science Center Found a More Responsible Way to Renovate Premises
Life Science Center has become the first Business Park in Finland to collaborate with circular economy expert Risain Oy. In their latest renovation project, Risain helped find new uses for the building materials and fixed furnishings that were to be demolished. The positive environmental impact of the project equates to the annual emissions of eight electrically heated detached houses.
